Hanshi Anthony (Tony) Sandoval

After practicing Shorin Ryu for several years, I had the continual thirst in finding greater meaning to this art. I have been no stranger to traveling and training with many great masters, thus, in 1994 I heard of Hanshi Anthony Sandoval so with enormous persistence I was able to finally locate this much talk about master of masters, this led me to visit him in North Carolina.

Subsequently, the following years of training with Hanshi Sandoval ( the father of American Hakutsuru – White Crane) has changed my karate and martial arts and for good reason, for Hanshi Sandoval is a US Retired Marine who spent well over 20 years in the Orients between the birth land of karate Okinawa, Japan, Taiwan, and China. The list of great masters with whom he had trained with during the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s top the list of the “Who’s Who” in the martial arts and just as impressive is the list of certificates he has attained from these great legends. To add to his martial arts accomplishments, he is a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran being awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star with Combat “V” for Valor.

And yet, contrary to what our experiences may have been with Grandmasters, he is one of the most humble and giving teachers I have met. Today I am sill a proud student and like many value the opportunity and friendship that he has given me.
